AASECT Certified Sex Therapist

Sex therapy is talk therapy.

A place to talk about sex, desire, pleasure and pain with someone trained to hear all of it without flinching. For individuals and for partners, in person in West Concord or by telehealth across Massachusetts.

Clearing it up

What it is, and what it isn’t

Sex therapy is
  • Conversation, in person or by video
  • For one person, two, or more
  • About your body, your relationships and your history
  • Sometimes homework you do at home, on your own terms
Sex therapy is never
  • Touching, undressing or sexual activity in a session
  • Judgment about what you like or who you love
  • Only for couples
  • Only for “problems”

What people bring

Nothing you could say would be the strangest thing Kara has heard.

  • Different levels of desire between partners
  • Low, changing or confusing libido
  • Pain with sex
  • Erection, arousal or orgasm worries
  • Shame about sex from religion, culture or family
  • Questions about sexual orientation or gender identity
  • Kink and BDSM, from curiosity to conflict
  • Opening a relationship, or deciding not to
  • Sex after trauma or sexual assault
  • Sexual behavior that feels out of your control
  • Sex and intimacy through pregnancy, postpartum, infertility or menopause
  • Sex after a health diagnosis

Why a nurse matters here

The body is part of the conversation.

Before she became a therapist, Kara spent more than ten years as a family health nurse. That background means the physical side of sex is never off the table: health diagnoses, pregnancy and postpartum, infertility, perimenopause and menopause, and the feelings that come with all of them.

She also holds a post-graduate certificate in Sex, Culture, and Society from the University of Amsterdam, and was a trained sex educator before she was a sex therapist.

Sex workers and the adult industry

Kara is a Pineapple Support provider and sees sex work as work. You won’t be asked to justify your job.
