Practice policies

The ground rules, in plain words.

How Kara protects your privacy, keeps healthy boundaries, and makes sure you know what therapy will cost.

My pledge on generative AI

I pledge not to use Generative AI in my practice for a number of reasons:

  • The environmental costs are tremendous.
  • There is substantial misinformation, disinformation, bias, and marginalization contained in AI-generated content.
  • There are serious concerns about privacy for users of AI, and I refuse to expose my clients to additional risks.

As such:

  • I will never record our sessions without express, written consent from all parties involved.
  • I will never use an “AI Scribe” for clinical note-taking.
  • I strongly discourage any person from using AI (such as ChatGPT) for “therapy”.

I value your privacy and well-being, and believe that the use of Generative AI in a therapy setting is antithetical to this.

Your right to a Good Faith Estimate

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your care will cost.

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services, in writing, at least 1 business day before your service. You can also ask your provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule.

If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
